Flaring: Zero routine flaring by 2025
Shell reached our target of eliminating routine gas flaring from our Upstream-operated assets in 2025, moving faster than the World Bank’s Zero Routine Flaring by 2030 initiative, to which we are a signatory.
Shell also has targets to:
- Halve Scope 1 and 2 emissions under our operational control by 2030, on a net basis, compared with 2016. Scope 1 emissions come directly from our operations, and Scope 2 from the energy we buy to run our operations.
- Maintain methane emissions intensity for operated oil and gas assets below 0.2% and achieve near-zero methane emissions by 2030[1].
These targets will help Shell become a net-zero emissions energy business by 2050.
Shell is a signatory to the World Bank’s Zero Routine Flaring by 2030 initiative and in 2021, we brought forward our target to eliminate routine flaring from our Upstream operations to 2025 from 2030.
