SOCS NL is targeting CO₂ emissions from hard-to-abate industries

Shell Offshore Carbon Storage Solutions NL (SOCS NL) will offer CO2 storage capacity in the Dutch sector of the North Sea and transportation solutions using Aramis infrastructure. The aim is to have the first store (3.7 mtpa) operational by 2029-2030 with more capacity to become available after 2032. The initial tranche of the capacity (2.8 mtpa in our first store) is currently offered to all interested customers.

Employee on Shell ship

Shell is investing heavily in the Dutch energy transition, including hydrogen, offshore wind farms, biofuels and electric charging stations.

Alongside efforts to avoid and reduce emissions through energy efficiency measures, increased electrification and fuel switching, wide-spread deployment of CCS in hard-to-abate sectors will be essential.

Shell Workstation

Shell plans to develop additional storage capacity as part of the SOCS NL project in the coming years with expected onstream dates beyond 2030.

Customers are also encouraged to express interest for future capacity to help gauge demand for subsequent phases.
