Following the launch of the latest joint report from Shell and BCG: The voluntary carbon market: 2022 insights and trends, we brought together a panel of industry experts to explore the current state of the voluntary carbon market.



Andrea Abrahams
MD Voluntary Carbon Markets at the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA)

Andrea is managing director of Voluntary Carbon Markets (VCM) at IETA where she manages VCM policy and advocacy, the ICROA Accreditation Programme, and supports the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM). She is also an independent member of investment committee for Climate Asset Management’s Nature Based Carbon Fund.
Further, Andrea works an independent advisor to support companies with their net zero strategies and pro bono work includes mentorship to new ventures in the Creative Destruction Lab programme (Oxford University chapter).
Previously Andrea worked for bp as the Director Energy Transition where she played a central role in developing and driving bp’s net zero ambition. This included supporting the Downstream executive and bp main board in defining decarbonising pathways to achieve net zero, understanding climate risks, reporting (ESG) and implementing targets. Driving the energy transition, Andrea established cross-business governance, performance management and GHG measurement processes.
As head of bp Target Neutral, Andrea led a world-class voluntary carbon market programme developing carbon reduction and offsetting programmes for bp and its customers. Working with NGOs and industry associations, her team developed many industry firsts including offsetting programmes for the London Olympics & Paralympics and FIFA Brazil World cup.
Previously Andrea was instrumental in setting up bp’s Strategic Partnering business establishing 20 global strategic collaborations with many of the world’s largest corporations.
Nick Osborne
General Manager Environmental Products Trading at Shell
Nick has been with Shell for more than 25 years and worked in the UK, the USA and the Netherlands. He has worked in trading since 2000 covering gasoline, Chemicals and Chemical products. He led the ethanol business from 2006 to 2012 building it from a single trader (him) to a global team. His previous role was GM of freight in Crude trading. He is a firm believer that markets are the best way for participants to understand the choice available to them.


Anders Porsborg-Smith
Managing Director and Partner at Boston Consulting Group
Anders Porsborg-Smith is part of the global leadership team of Boston Consulting Group's Energy practice. He heads the firm's global midstream, gas, and LNG business line and leads BCG's energy scenarios and environmental markets work. Anders focuses on strategic topics linked to the commercial practices of commodity industries, including strategic reviews, strategy development, operating model enhancements, hedging principles, portfolio management, mergers and acquisitions, and post-merger integration.
Prior to joining BCG, Anders held different roles in commodity trading at Merrill Lynch, Mercuria Trading, and NEAS Energy (now Centrica Energy Trading)

Andreas Slettvoll is the founder and CEO of climate action company CHOOOSE. As the first-ever northern-European company, CHOOOSE was named a top 10 global startup by Richard Branson and Extreme Tech Challenge in 2018 and Startup of the Year at DNB NXT in 2017, and is currently serving people and corporates in more than 60 countries.
