TetraSpar Demonstrator, the world’s first fully industrialized floating offshore foundation, is now commissioned and in operation

The pioneering floating wind project, TetraSpar Demonstrator, is commissioned and in operation, anchored in place at 200 m water depth off Norway’s coast. The project will now enter its test phase where data on the performance and characteristics of the TetraSpar floating foundation will be captured and analyzed to pave the way for commercial-scale floating wind projects.

MunmuBaram Co., Ltd., a joint venture (JV) between Shell (80%) and CoensHexicon (20%), announced that it has secured an Electricity Business License (EBL) for its floating offshore wind project off the coast of Ulsan, South Korea. The EBL from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy grants the JV exclusive development rights to progress 420-megawatt (MW) of wind energy, a third of the total planned output of 1.3-gigawatt (GW) of the project. This is the first time that Shell and CoensHexicon have received exclusive development rights for offshore wind projects in Asia.

Shell has signed an agreement with Irish leading blue economy developer Simply Blue Group to acquire a 51% share of their Western Star venture, which seeks to develop a floating wind farm off the Clare coast in Ireland. This follows a similar agreement earlier this year to jointly develop the Emerald floating wind project off the south coast of Ireland. The Western Star Joint Venture will be developed by Simply Blue Group personnel and Shell floating wind experts, with the project office based at Simply Blue Group Headquarters in Cork.

(“Shell”) have agreed to explore the potential for joint projects producing hydrogen from renewable electricity. The ambition is to use the hydrogen to help decarbonise Hydro’s and Shell’s own operations, and to supply customers in heavy industries, the maritime sector and road transport.
