The only premium motorcycle engine oil used and recommended by Ducati Corse, Shell Advance Ultra retains horsepower at different speeds up to 20,000km1, enabling riders to get 11.5 metres ahead when accelerating from 0-100km/hr2. It offers longer engine life with up to 79% less evaporation3, and improved fuel economy of 5km further per litre of fuel4.

Beyond Shell Advance Ultra, the latest API SP specification is also available on the benefit-led range of products that include Shell Advance Power, FuelSave, Long Ride, City, City Scooter and FuelSave Scooter. Shell Advance full-synthetic products are the first and only motorcycle and scooter oil made with Shell’s PurePlus Technology, a revolution in motor oil that delivers a 99.5% pure4 base oil from natural gas, with virtually none of the impurities found in crude oil. Now meeting the 2024 API SP standard, Shell Advance’s premium range of lubricants is designed to deliver improved power and performance, allowing bikers and scooters around the world to Ride On with confidence.

Shell celebrates this milestone alongside the unveiling of Shell Advance’s new brand campaign – ’It’s not just oil, it’s crazy good oil’, where Shell Advance inspires riders to pursue one’s own path with inner strength and passion to embrace the open road and boldly be themselves. Shell Advance’s latest campaign will feature Ducati Corse riders to celebrate over 25 years of technical partnership.

In bringing the partnership to life, Shell hosted various Industry Opinion Leaders to offer a firsthand experience of the new Shell Advance premium lubricants and Shell’s commitment to riding-innovation in motorcycle oil at the first MotoGP race of the 2025 season. MotoGP is the ultimate testbed for Shell Advance technology, providing Shell and Ducati valuable insights into product performance. Notes to editors

What is API SP?

API SP is the latest engine oil standard issued by the American Petroleum Institute (API) for gasoline 4-stroke engines. It offers customers the latest engine oil specifications that provide better protection to modern engines against wear, deposits and sludge build-up.

1 Based on Shell’s power at wheels test performed on a chassis dynamometer at the start (0km) and end (20,000km) of field trial for three brand new motorcycles filled with Advance Ultra 10W-40 oil

2 Based on comparison against a global competitor brand in a 0-100km/hr acceleration test conducted by Shell

3 Noack evaporation test (ASTM D5800) against the API SP Noack limit.

4 Based on paraffinic hydrocarbon content and significantly higher level of iso-paraffins compared to typical Group II and III base oils.

Shell’s Net Carbon Intensity

Also, in this content we may refer to Shell’s “Net Carbon Intensity” (NCI), which includes Shell’s carbon emissions from the production of our energy products, our suppliers’ carbon emissions in supplying energy for that production and our customers’ carbon emissions associated with their use of the energy products we sell. Shell’s NCI also includes the emissions associated with the production and use of energy products produced by others which Shell purchases for resale. Shell only controls its own emissions. The use of the terms Shell’s “Net Carbon Intensity” or NCI are for convenience only and not intended to suggest these emissions are those of Shell plc or its subsidiaries.

Shell’s net-zero emissions target

Shell’s operating plan, outlook and budgets are forecasted for a ten-year period and are updated every year. They reflect the current economic environment and what we can reasonably expect to see over the next ten years. Accordingly, they reflect our Scope 1, Scope 2 and NCI targets over the next ten years. However, Shell’s operating plans cannot reflect our 2050 net-zero emissions target, as this target is currently outside our planning period. In the future, as society moves towards net-zero emissions, we expect Shell’s operating plans to reflect this movement. However, if society is not net zero in 2050, as of today, there would be significant risk that Shell may not meet this target.

Forward-Looking non-GAAP measures

This content may contain certain forward-looking non-GAAP measures such as cash capital expenditure and divestments. We are unable to provide a reconciliation of these forward-looking non-GAAP measures to the most comparable GAAP financial measures because certain information needed to reconcile those non-GAAP measures to the most comparable GAAP financial measures is dependent on future events some of which are outside the control of Shell, such as oil and gas prices, interest rates and exchange rates. Moreover, estimating such GAAP measures with the required precision necessary to provide a meaningful reconciliation is extremely difficult and could not be accomplished without unreasonable effort. Non-GAAP measures in respect of future periods which cannot be reconciled to the most comparable GAAP financial measure are calculated in a manner which is consistent with the accounting policies applied in Shell plc’s consolidated financial statements.
