Wael Sawan is Upstream Director.
Appointed with effect from July 2019
Wael Sawan was appointed Upstream Director and a member of the Executive Committee of Royal Dutch Shell on July 1 2019.
Wael joined Shell in 1997 and has worked in each of Shell's core business units: Upstream, Integrated Gas and Downstream. He holds a Masters degree in Engineering from McGill University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
In 2008, Wael was appointed Shell’s Vice President for Commercial, New Business and LNG in Qatar. In April 2012, he became Managing Director and Chairman of the Qatar Shell companies, including Pearl GTL, one of the largest oil and gas projects in the world. From 2015 to 2019, he served as Executive Vice President of Shell’s Deepwater Business, based in Houston.
