Three Proposals Best Answer Shell GameChanger’s Call
Jul 20, 2020
A panel of experts has selected three proposals as the finalists of the Shell GameChanger “Call for Solutions” issued in February. The Call sought ways to transform earth-observation data into actionable insights that could help Shell address the climate-change challenges it faces in providing more and cleaner energy for society.
All in all, GameChanger received 73 proposals, which were screened by the panel on the basis of criteria such as novelty, potential value and feasibility. The panelists included representatives not only from Shell’s nature-based-solutions business but also from its biological, geomatics and data-science research programmes.
The names of the top three proposals and the companies that submitted them are:
- Rebrota from Space Intelligence Ltd: https://www.space-intelligence.com/
- Peatland Function from Motion from the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology: https://www.ceh.ac.uk/
- EO4 CO2 Signals from Netherlands Geomatics & Earth Observation: https://www.neo.nl/
The details of these proposals will be worked out further for presentation to an extended panel, which will ultimately select one that will receive funding to complete a “proof of concept” within six months’ time. The winner is expected to be announced in August.
