Choose the Shell path for you

Shell is one of the world’s largest companies, with variety of roles and opportunities, globally. To help you find the best place for your skills, we have organised our Graduate Programme into three distinct business areas.

Shell Truck for Supply and Distribution

Shell Trading & Supply (T&S) is one of the largest energy trading organisations in the world with hubs in London, Houston, Singapore, Dubai and Rotterdam.

We support the Shell group through trading crude oil, refined products, low-carbon fuels, power, liquefied natural gas (LNG), chemical feedstocks, environmental products and freight services in trading hubs around the world. We are active in most energy markets across the globe, sourcing from a wide range of suppliers and selling to a wide range of customers.

T&S consists of a number of separate businesses that belong to the Shell group of companies. This provides us access to an integrated network of supply and distribution activities and industry-leading shipping and maritime capabilities, allowing us to operate as a truly integrated supply chain and add value to Shell across multiple facets of our business from Upstream and Integrated Gas to the Downstream and Renewables businesses.

We strive to bring stable and secure energy to millions of communities across the world while continuing to push towards a net-zero carbon future. Our people in Trading and Supply ensure this energy reaches our customers on time, efficiently and at better value by forging mutually beneficial partnerships.

Your Shell Trading & Supply Graduate Programme experience

On-the-job experience in this area entails two 18-month rotations in Trading and Supply businesses, exposure across commodities and geographical scope where possible. The objective is to give you exposure to Operations, Analytics, Risk, Compliance and Business Development within Trading and Supply, supported by formal training. Upon successful completion of the Roundtable assessment, you will be able to further develop your knowledge within one of the multiple business lines in Trading & Supply.

The application process

Stage One: Virtual Job Tryout and On-Demand Interview

Step into the role with our Virtual Job Tryout, the first stage of your application journey. Experience the job through simulations where you tackle challenges, demonstrate your problem-solving skills, share your unique story, and reveal your work approach. This is a dynamic way to gauge how you’ll fit into a role in the Shell Graduate Programme. Once you complete the Virtual Job Tryout, you will then move on to the On-Demand Interview. During the On-Demand Interview, you will be given enough time to prepare for each question before being asked to record your responses. You will be given the option to save your progress, though you will have to complete the interview within 7 days from receiving the invitation.

The Virtual Job Tryout and On-Demand Interview will take approximately 40 minutes.

Stage Two: Final Assessment (Virtual)

Applicants to either programme will complete a virtual case study session with two Shell employees. You will need to read and prepare for this, but don’t worry, all the information you need will be provided to you in advance.

Applicants to the Shell Graduate Programme (SGP) will complete a virtual interview with the same two Shell employees. This allows us to get to know you better and for you to get to know us better.

Offer

Following the successful completion of Stage 2, you could be offered a place in the Shell Graduate Programme (SGP) or the Shell Assessed Internship Programme (SAI) depending on currently available opportunities.

In the Assessed Internship Programme, you will receive hands-on training and the chance to earn a Shell Graduate Programme employment offer.

For Graduates, if you are successful in your application, your intake date could fall within one of these months: February, May, August or November. However, please be aware that the availability of roles varies by country. Some countries offer roles in all four months, while others provide opportunities only in certain months. The specifics are contingent on the location.

What we look for

Our Graduates, while diverse in background and skillsets, come together with key traits and behaviours that aid their success in the programme. These include qualities such as their capacity to analyse situations and propose purposeful solutions that align with our strategic goals, adaptability towards learning and growing from feedback in order to deliver results, and how they nurture relationships and work effectively with a diverse team.

Our basic requirements

We welcome applicants who have either already graduated from a recognised university or are in the final year of their degree course.

For Technical roles in certain countries, we do ask that you have already obtained or are studying towards a Master’s degree or equivalent qualification. In other countries, many of our technical roles are for a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

For Commercial and Global Functions roles, we are looking for a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

Validity of the assessment outcome

Please note that after submitting a Graduate Programme application, any further applications during a 10-month period will be auto-progressed, based on the outcome of the first application. Therefore, if you have a successful application and re-apply to a different position in a 10-month period, your application will automatically proceed through Stage One. Alternatively, if you have an unsuccessful application and re-apply to a different position in a 10-month period, your application will be automatically regretted.
