Shell and McDermott have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate to accelerate the decarbonisation of McDermott’s global operations across fabrication facilities and construction vessels.
Shell and McDermott have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on 1st November 2021 to collaborate to accelerate the decarbonisation of McDermott’s global operations across fabrication facilities and construction vessels. Shell will offer its expertise in decarbonisation solutions to support McDermott to develop and progress a greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction roadmap that identifies abatement opportunities to reduce emissions from existing McDermott assets now and achieves net-zero emissions in the future.
McDermott aims to contribute to a low-carbon economy through its sustainability targets which include 50 percent reduction in its scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030. Shell will work with McDermott to reduce emissions through a range of decarbonisation solutions, including:
- Potential low carbon fuels and renewable power solutions such as solar for McDermott’s fabrication facilities;
- Multiple tactics to reduce emissions from their construction vessels,
- Digital solutions to optimise operations and drive greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction;
And to share the learnings from Shell’s decarbonisation work with McDermott with the wider construction industry.
Shell and McDermott have partnered on several construction projects, studies and developments to shape a sustainable future for energy, including a Shell-led consortium to demonstrate feasibility of large-scale liquid hydrogen storage.
