Advocacy and political activity

Our advocacy, directly with governments and regulators, and indirectly through industry associations and coalitions, supports our strategy to deliver more value with less emissions.

We provide input into the development of policy, legislation and regulation that support secure and affordable energy supplies today, in the form of oil and gas, while decarbonising production. We also advocate policies, legislation and regulation that help to build the energy system of the future, including support for low-carbon energy products and solutions.

We believe that lobbying transparency is important as it helps people to better understand our advocacy activities and encourages collaboration. We engage with investors, international and civil society organisations, companies and industry associations as we further develop our approach to lobbying transparency.

Our work with industry associations

We value our memberships of industry associations, which provide a platform for industry-wide engagements with governments, regulators and communities on a range of topics. Many of the associations we are a member of engage on public policy, legislation and regulation. They also often play an important role in developing and implementing industry standards and best practices in areas such as health, safety, security and the environment.
