Shell China wins key award for its contribution to technology in the bitumen industry

Shell China has won the ‘2010 China Bitumen Industry Technological Contributions Award’ from an industry consultancy firm that lists China’s top ten companies in the bitumen sector every year.

The award has come as recognition of Shell Bitumen’s strength in technology and its contribution in the Chinese market after a strong performance in 2010.

Shell is one of the top independent oil company bitumen providers in China and technology has played a key part in this achievement. In 2010, Shell China achieved success in both the new-build market, developing high quality Polymer Modified Bitumen technology, and the maintenance market, promoting the preventative maintenance concept. We have also been involved in the development of high-speed rail in China in a number of projects as bitumen provider; Beijing-Shanghai, Harbin-Dalian, Beijing-Shijiazhuang and Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong, - a significant share in China’s fast growing high-speed rail sector.

In its latest 5b year plan the Chinese government has established targets relating to natural resources and environmental issues, aiming to build sustainable development practices into Chinese industries. Shell Bitumen in China are aiming to align their business strategy with these goals, progressing Shell Low Temp Binders, Shell Thiopave and recycled bitumen. Shell Flintkote Ultra, a waterproof coating, was applied in the China Pavilion at the World Expo 2010, underlining our initial success in the commercial building market.
