Growing out of the former fearsome Österreichring, the Red Bull Ring is located in the picturesque Styrian Mountains. With significant elevation changes across the lap, it provides a stern test for the drivers as well as a beautiful backdrop for the Austrian Grand Prix.

Detail 1

Turn 1

Turn one is a tricky uphill right-hander where the exit remains unseen until the driver is well through the corner. The elevation change on entry helps slow the car under braking but it can become very tight at the beginning of the race.

Turn 3

Turn three is one of the best overtaking opportunities on the whole circuit, alongside being the highest point of elevation across the track. An extremely tight right-hander, expect drama here throughout the weekend.

Turn 4

Coming at the end of the first DRS activation zone of the lap, turn 4 offers another good overtaking point for the field as they head down the hill into the right-hander.

Turn 10

The final corner on the circuit is a challenging and fast right-hander leading on to the home straight. There is little run-off on exit with kerbs posing a risk too so a smooth and clean exit is vital.

Q: How challenging is the track on a low-med-high scale?

A: With the circuit sitting over 700 metres above sea level, the altitude poses an interesting challenging with more pressure being put on the Shell fuel and lubricants as the engine works harder than at most other races.

A: The Red Bull Ring is a good place to work but with this being the second of three races on back-to-back weekends, there is time pressure to get everything ready and set up for the action.

With 63.5m of elevation between the circuits lowest and highest points, the Red Bull Ring has the second most amount of elevation change of the entire 2018 calendar.
