I’ve been at Shell for just over a decade now and during that time, I’ve held three positions – Strategic Relations Manager, Sourcing and Strategic Supplier Manager, and Enterprise and Strategic Supplier Manager – all of which were based in the Netherlands.
Marielle Antvelink-Rijk is, as of March 2017, a Strategic Supplier Manager who has worked on numerous Shell projects around the globe. She has solved various complex problems and taken in some extraordinary sights along the way. To celebrate International Women’s Day 2017, Marielle tells her Shell story.
One of the key elements that attracted me to Shell was that I knew I’d constantly be working as a supplier manager on projects around the world. Taking a problem, finding a viable solution with internal and supplier stakeholders, and then implementing it until it’s successful is something I find incredibly rewarding. I’m always excited to tackle the next big challenge.
I’m extremely fond of travel, and I particularly enjoy visiting countries that enable me to experience different cultures, traditions and beliefs. I’ve been to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia quite a few times, but this trip will always stay with me; I met some amazing people and, as you can see, saw some breathtaking sights.
I’ve made many friends during my travels. I truly believe that travel broadens the mind and I’ve been very lucky to have visited some amazing places throughout the world during my time at Shell.
When it comes to work journeys, Houston is always a trip that stands out. Not only do I love going there, but my family loves it too. They don’t necessarily come with me, but they know I tend to do a bit of shopping when I’m in the States, so they always give me a pretty detailed shopping list!
There are also plenty of events, get-togethers and socials to enjoy closer to home. There’re so many opportunities to do things outside of work, and something I really enjoy is running. The City-Pier-City Run in The Hague is one of the biggest races in the Netherlands, and I, along with a number of Shell colleagues, decided to take part. Here we are proudly showing off our medals before participating in some hard-earned celebrating.
