Shell’s Trader Development Programme (TDP) is a structured 2–3‑year pathway designed to develop future traders for our global Trading & Supply (T&S) business. What is the Shell Trader Development Programme (TDP)?

Who is the programme for?

The programme targets early‑career talent with with 3-5 years work experience, strong commercial acumen and an interest in energy markets. No prior trading experience is required, as the curriculum builds the skills needed to begin a trading career.

How long does it typically take to complete the programme?

Given that the programme is tailored according to the individual’s current level of proficiency as well as subjected to individual learning style and pace, the duration will vary. However typically it would range from 2 to 3 years.

Do I need any trading experience to apply for the TDP?

Whilst trading experience is useful, it’s certainly not a requirement to join the TDP. We look for individuals who bring us diverse professional perspectives, life experiences and educational backgrounds. We are open to receiving applications from talented candidates who demonstrate an appetite for trading and the potential we’re looking for.

What kind of training can participants expect?

Participants receive structured training on markets, pricing, risk, and commercial decision‑making. This is supported by mentorship from experienced traders and regular coaching from managers.

What type of hands on experience is included?
