The Shell General Business Principles, Code of Conduct and Ethics and Compliance Manual help everyone at Shell act in line with these values and comply with relevant laws and regulations.​\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EWe were one of the first global companies to state and share our beliefs when we published our General Business Principles in 1976. As part of these principles, we commit to contribute to sustainable development, balancing short and long-term interests and integrating economic, environmental and social considerations into our decision-making.​\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Ch2\u003EHuman rights\u003C/h2\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EOur respect for every person’s human rights is fundamental. Our approach is informed by the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, and our commitment to human rights is embedded into our frameworks and processes including our Code of Conduct, Business Principles and Shell Supplier Principles, which include specific labour and human rights expectations for contractors and suppliers.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Ch2\u003EFairness and respect​\u003C/h2\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EWe believe everyone should be treated with fairness and respect and have the mechanisms available for individuals to call out behaviours that are not aligned with values.​\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EUltimately, this means we want everyone who works at Shell to have a strong sense of belonging, irrespective of our differences. In 2021 we launched a mandatory training course for all staff called Respect in the Workplace, which helps ensure everyone understands what fairness and respect mean in practice.
