On April 17 2019, NGC and Shell (Shanghai) Technology Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Shell) signed a technology cooperation agreement in Nanjing. The two companies will work closely together in a variety of fields including:
- Renewable energy technology R&D
- Energy utilization and equipment intelligence management
- Power exchange and technology co-development
- Communication of the benefits of effective lubrication solutions for wind power gearboxes and power transmission systems
During the productive meeting, Mr. Gary Sun, Technical Director of NGC, and Dr. Cameron Watson, General Manager Lubricants Technology-AP of Shell (Shanghai) Technology Center, reached an agreement on technical cooperation on behalf of the two companies.
NGC and Shell have established a solid foundation for cooperation, with Shell providing high performance gear oil for the yaw and pitch gearboxes of NGC for over a decade. The two companies have also conducted multiple joint technical seminars and product trials which showcased the importance of effective lubrication management and how it can provide efficient solutions for wind power drives. By the end of 2018, the cumulative number of yaw/pitch gearboxes filled with Shell lubricants reached 90000 units.
In 2015, NGC and Shell started the field trial for Shell Omala S5 Wind, an advanced fully synthetic gear oil with an industry leading ten-year warranty1. The trial was designed to ensure the next generation of Shell Omala S5 Wind 320 provides outstanding performance, which is crucial to meeting the rapidly developing gearbox design requirements of the wind power industry.
Mr. Gary Sun indicated in the April meeting that NGC is steering its core direction towards renewable energy, along with energy-saving and energy efficiency technologies development. The company’s mission and vision of "Geared for a Better Future" is a perfect match for Shell's renewable energy development strategy.
