Hauliers, as well as customers, play a critical part in delivering an outstanding HSSE performance with respect to the movement of our products. In order for hauliers and customers to play their part, they need to understand the Shell chemicals companies’ requirements.
Any Rail Tank Car (RTC) sent to a Shell supply location must comply with the relevant transport legislation (e.g. DOT, RID) and may be subject to close inspection by Shell or third party staff for pre-loading, unloading and dispatch checks.
Should it be determined that an RTC, or its accompanying equipment, is defective or legally non-compliant in any respect that has a bearing on safety during loading, transportation or unloading, then it will be rejected. And, until such time as the identified faults have been rectified by the sender, the Shell supply locations will reserve their right to refuse entry to the RTC or to load it or to return it empty to sender.
