On-site collection requirements
All Shell chemicals companies aim to have a Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) performance to be proud of, to earn the confidence of customers, shareholders and society at large, to be a good neighbour and to contribute to sustainable development.
Hauliers, as well as customers, play a critical part in delivering an outstanding HSSE performance with respect to the movement of our products. In order for hauliers and customers to play their part, they need to understand the Shell chemicals companies’ requirements.
Rail transport
Any Rail Tank Car (RTC) sent to a Shell supply location must comply with the relevant transport legislation (e.g. DOT, RID) and may be subject to close inspection by Shell or third party staff for pre-loading, unloading and dispatch checks.
Should it be determined that an RTC, or its accompanying equipment, is defective or legally non-compliant in any respect that has a bearing on safety during loading, transportation or unloading, then it will be rejected. And, until such time as the identified faults have been rectified by the sender, the Shell supply locations will reserve their right to refuse entry to the RTC or to load it or to return it empty to sender.
Road transport
Shell chemicals companies have adopted an industry best practice guideline as the standard to ensure safe loading and unloading. This standard describes how unsafe situations during loading and unloading can be prevented by effective cooperation between (un)loading operators and drivers. This standard is an integral part of the Shell Chemicals service and delivery standards for customers in US/Canada and Europe.
Behaviour Based Safety Guidelines for the Safe Loading and Unloading of Road Freight Vehicles
Below you will find a document “HSSE Requirements for deliveries/collections”: these requirements need to be fulfilled when transporting products purchased from Shell Chemicals, or where a seller drops off at our site the product that Shell buys or when working on behalf of Shell Chemicals.
HSSE Requirements for deliveries/collections
In the tables below, which are listed by region, you will find additional Site-Specific Requirements: these need to be fulfilled before a truck is allowed onto a Shell or third-party site to load product. By clicking on the region you will be redirected to the requirements for the sites in that region. To view the requirements associated with each site, click on the related PDF link.
It is important to adhere to both the General and Site-Specific Requirements. If there is a conflict between the General and Site-Specific Requirements then the Site-Specific Requirements will take precedence.
It is the responsibility of the users of these documents to regularly check the validity of the documents in their possession and download the latest and only valid version.
