New storage terminals on the west coast of France
Oct 10, 2013
Having successfully trialled transport solutions combining waterways, railways and roads, Shell Bitumen has launched two new storage terminals in Nantes and Bayonne on the West Coast of France, following the closure of the Petit Couronne and Berre refineries.
Nantes’ depot received its first bitumen cargo from the Netherlands in early January 2013, and since then more than 20 cargoes have arrived, allowing for deliveries to more than 180 customers and over 2600 trucks.
Following soon after, Bayonne’s depot opened in early May and has since allowed Shell Bitumen to grow its European supply operation, delivering to over 60 customers and 350 trucks to date.
Both depot facilities allow the mixing and loading of the full range of bitumen grades, with fully-automated operations capable of discharging a cargo in less than 10 hours and loading as many as 10 trucks every hour.
The depots represent a major step in the implementation of Shell Bitumen’s European supply strategy, aimed at ensuring the reliability and quality of service expected by its customers in an increasingly-complex business environment.
