Environmental Studies
Shell has asked independent consultants to undertake studies to identify potential environmental, social and health impacts associated with the planned exploration programmes in South Africa.
The systematic assessments consider the environmental and social settings, regulations, and the outcome of consultation with affected and interested parties. This allows Shell to plan how to reduce any impact to an acceptable level.
Commitments made as a result of the impact assessment process, will be captured in environmental management plans (EMP) that will be implemented and tracked through the life of the projects and possible operational activity.
In 2010 we started work on an EMP for the offshore Orange Basin license area, facilitated by independent consultants Environmental Resources Management (ERM).
EMP activities for the onshore Karoo Basin area started January 2011, facilitated by Golder Associates. For additional information about the Karoo EMP and to register as interested and affected stakeholder, please contact Golder Associates: karoo@golder.co.za / 011 254 4805.
