Moratorium on shale gas exploration license applications lifted by Cabinet
Shell is pleased to hear from the Minister in the presidency, Collins Chabane, this morning that Cabinet endorsed a recommendation for the lifting of the moratorium on shale gas exploration in SA.

Karoo Groundwater Atlas contributes valuable information for South Africa
To coincide with World Water Day, Shell South Africa today released Stage One of a Karoo Groundwater Atlas. The Atlas is the result of a study conducted at the end of 2011 into the occurrence and characteristics of groundwater in the Karoo area of South Africa. A team of eight leading South African hydrogeologists with more than 250 years of combined Karoo-specific groundwater experience led the study. The local specialists undertook a desktop review and held a workshop to identify and agree on key groundwater attributes and their significance across the Karoo region.

Shell reaches settlement with Competition Commission on bitumen case
PRETORIA – February 21, 2012 – Shell South Africa today reached a settlement agreement with the Competition Commission to pay an administrative penalty of R26.2 million for its involvement in the use of a pricing methodology for bitumen.

Exploration Right Awarded in Orange Basin Offshore South Africa
CAPE TOWN – February 10, 2012 – The Minister of Mineral Resources has awarded Shell South Africa Upstream B.V. an exploration right in the Orange Basin Deep Water area off the north-west coast of South Africa.
