The Middle East Learning Hub
The Middle East Learning Hub was formally inaugurated under the auspices of HE Nasser Al Jashmi, Undersecretary of the Omani Ministry of Oil & Gas and in the presence of Malcolm Brinded, Shell’s Executive Director of Exploration and Production, Dr.Andy Wood, the Shell Representative Oman, Dr. John Malcolm, Managing Director at PDO, Mr. Raoul Restucci, CEO, Shell Exploration and Production Middle East as well as other senior Government and Shell/PDO representatives in November 2006.
The inauguration coincided with the 1st ever Exploration and Production course for technical staff (EP00) that was run in Oman as part of the ME Learning Hub. In collaboration with PDO, the Middle East Learning Hub provides a diverse range of world class learning and development opportunities for staff in Shell and Joint Venture Companies in the Middle East, Caspian, South Asia.
The mission of the Hub is to develop the capabilities of staff in a technologically demanding environment and offers a wide range of Core Technical, HSE, Leadership, Foundation and on-boarding events aimed at individuals during the first year in their career within Shell & Shell JVs and brings great benefits to Oman and the Region - to name a few:
- Permanent Shell Technical expertise to be based in Oman to support building Technical Capability in Oman and Region
- Foundation training provided for PDO new joiners without backlog
- Increasing in-house training portfolio
- Early exposure/participation to Shell L&D developments
- Increased networking opportunities among Regional staff.
In addition to the formal Learning portfolio, the Hub supports informal Learning & development initiatives such as workplace learning through a professional team of dedicated Technical Learning & Development Leaders, based in Oman & Qatar. These Learning Advisors serve as Technical coaches to the young Technical Professionals, and work together with discipline Heads and Technical Managers to address capability gaps in the Region.
