About STO

In November 2006, Shell launched Shell Technology Oman, an EOR Research and Development Hub which forms an integral part of Shell Global Exploration and Production Technology organisation and works in close partnership with the Oil & Gas Research Centre of Sultan Qaboos University and Petroleum Development Oman (PDO).

STO’s initial focus is on thermal and chemical EOR Research & Development. In addition, STO also provides PDO with EOR related technical consultancy (e.g., peer reviews). This maximises the benefit of “customer intimacy” with Shell technical experts working closely with the frontline business to ensure that solutions are fit for purpose.

The team is based in Muscat and comprises both Omani and international Shell experts, with more appointments set to be made as the research programme expands.
