Shell Development Oman Holds its First Professional Training Course in 2013

Shell Development Oman (SDO) is pleased to announce that it has successfully held its first professional training course in 2013. The course, entitled “The Art of Communication,” has been held as part of SDO’s “Training for Development” social investment initiative. After much success and popularity last year, “The Art of Communication” was relaunched.

 “The Art of Communication” helped kick start the 2013 Shell Professional Courses programme.  The three day course was attended by 26 participants from NGOs, the public sector and the private sector and was led by training experts.  The course focused on helping participants build upon their general communication skills, negotiation skills and cross cultural communication skills. 

Participants also learned about using verbal and non-verbal communication messages in the right context as well as effective ways of giving and receiving constructive criticism.  Irrespective of sector, these skills are important in the workplace.

To open the course on April 7th, Muna Al Shukaili, Social Investment Advisor at SDO, introduced the participants to the course and spoke to them about SDO’s various social investment initiatives.  Hilal Al Mawali, General Manager of External Affairs at SDO, attended the closing of this course on April 9th

In reference to the “Art of Communication,” Muna Al Shukaili stated the following: “We are proud to have conducted this course once again.  I am confident that it has not only taught participants about important communication skills but about self-confidence and how to successfully deal with challenges in the workplace.”

The “Training for Development” initiative is aimed at helping empower young Omanis with new techniques and skills to help them thrive in their professional lives. 

As part of this initiative, the “Shell Professional Courses” enable Omani employees to develop a broad range of skills ranging from strategic thinking and leadership techniques to confidence building.  Various courses are held throughout the year across Oman in places such as Muscat, Nizwa and Sohar.  Attending these courses helps enhance the career prospects of participants; in 2012, 300 Omanis benefited from these training courses. 

Other courses to be held this year include “Smart Women,” “Public Relations & Media,” “Finance for Non-finance Professionals,” “Creative Thinking and Innovation Techniques,” “Customer Service Mindset,” “Business Planning,” and “Effective Work Force.”
