Kuwait Shell Hosts Successful Environmental Awareness Workshops for 300 Students at The New English School
The 3R workshops served as a platform for over 300 elementary students to help them explore the concept of environment and realize that they can make a difference if they implemented the 3R key principles of reducing, reusing and recycling a wide range of materials
Mr. Alastair Hannay, The New English School’s head teacher junior department said: “The 3R workshops taught the students the importance of recycling and waste management programs, and allowed them to directly experience how waste affects and pollutes the environment in the long run. This is a wonderful teaching initiative and we can’t thank Kuwait Shell enough for sharing it with us. We have a longstanding focus on the environment as part of the curriculum at NES and this was a new and engaging way of looking at the subject.”
The 3R workshops began with a brief introduction to the oil and gas industry, and a description of Shell’s line of business. Hands on activities and interactive demonstrations were used to illustrate students’ roles in improving not only their school environment, but also the environment in Kuwait in general.
Kuwait Shell Chairman, Mr. Ahmed Mouti concluded: “The underlying principles of our 3R ‘Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle’ workshops are in line with what we are trying to do here in Kuwait – make the best of our natural resources in order to minimize waste and help reduce any negative impact on the environment. Each one of us has a role to play and Kuwait Shell is committed to continue to help educate as many children as possible about the benefits of being environmentally sensible and doing what they can to preserve their surroundings.”
