Shell Contest Day for “Kuwait Annual Engineering Design Competition”

138 students representing 46 teams from all over Kuwait participated in Shell Contest Day on March 3 2012. The teams came with their families to showcase their Balsa Bridge design projects to the judging committee in an outdoor, open contest day at the Australian College of Kuwait (ACK).

The participating teams representing private and public high schools arrived at ACK at 9am to register their teams and take memorial group pictures. The judging committee then started calling the teams to test the efficiency, strength, and stability of the bridge designs by applying weight on the bridge. The bridge design that held the maximum possible weight won as the first place.

Commenting on the competition, Chairman & Managing Director for Shell Companies in Kuwait, Mr. Ahmed Atallah said: “We were very impressed with the number of the creative designs we received for the Balsa Bridge by the teams. We believe that by encouraging our younger generation to think creatively, we can help them to develop abilities and skills which will help build Kuwait future.”

The winning teams will be rewarded with trophies, certificates and cash rewards at an award ceremony at Petrochemical Industries Company Boubyan Club Theatre on 7 March 2012, under the patronage of Sheikh Talal Al-Khalid Al-Sabah, Managing Director of Government, Parliament, Public Relations & Media and senior representatives from Shell, Ministry of Education and Energy Center for Engineering Consultancy.
