 In October 1997, the "Shell" Transport and Trading Company, plc celebrated its centenary. In order to mark this in a lasting and meaningful way, the Royal Dutch/ Shell Group of Companies established "the Shell Centenary Scholarship Fund" as a charity which funds Shell Centenary Scholarships. These scholarships support educational advancement and co-operation worldwide by providing opportunities for graduate students from overseas to study in the United Kingdom. The Fund's aim is to provide, each year, at least 65 full cost scholarships to international students on one year taught postgraduate courses at seven of the UK's leading universities: Cambridge, Durham, Edinburgh, Imperial College London, Oxford and University College London. Each full-cost scholarship will cover tuition, accommodation, maintenance costs and return airfare for the scholarship holder only. The scholarship application is opening now till March 2006.  For over 40 years, Shell has sponsored an English Quiz Programme on television as one of several projects to promote education. The objective of the programme is to teach and enhance the English language skills of Thai students. At the same time, the programme provides an opportunity for viewers to improve their English competency as well as increase their general knowledge. The programme is well received not only by students and teachers in the academic circle but also by the general public audience nationwide. |
 Shell focuses on educational development of people at every level and each year provides scholarships worth millions of baht to young people who are studying in schools and other educational institutions throughout the country. For university students, Shell's scholarships are granted to eight state universities located both in Bangkok and other provinces. In addition, there is the "Shell Centennial Education Fund", set up in 1992 to mark the 100th anniversary of Shell in Thailand, which provides scholarships to graduate students in the fields of science and engineering to support their research projects. The amount of the fund is approximately Baht 100,000 per person. Students must submit their applications together with the required documents to their universities within June of each year. The selection process will be conducted by honorable professors in each field and the results will be announced by November.
