MCA Subject Exemption Assessment Service

Depending on your degreee course curriculae, you may be eligible to be exempt from certain academic subjects required to be studied by marine cadets. This page gives you some details of the service provided by the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

 

MCA S.E.A.S.

 

The academic sbujects for Engineering are Mathematics, Engineering Drawing, Applied Heat, Applied Mechanics, Electrotechnology and Naval Architecture.

 

The academic subjects for Deck are Mathematics, Cargo/Bridge Work, Ship Construction, Maritime Law, Ship Stability, Meteorology as well as certain navigation units.

 

The academic qualification which you hold may give you exemption from some of these subjects. The International Association of Maritime Institutions (IAMI) has beenengaged by the MCA to provide an exemption assessment exercise for individuals holding UK qualifications which are not part of a standard Engineering Cadetship.

 

In order to carry out this service, the MCA will require full syllabus details relating to your qualifications in order that this can be matched with the current MCA syllabus.

 

The MCA requires the IAMI assessment to verify a 90% match with the MCA syllabus before exemptions can be rewarded.

 

The cost of this service is based on an assessor's hourly rate og £60.00 per hour.
