The (1996) HSNO Act's objective is to provide a streamlined and up-to-date system for managing risks arising from hazardous substances and new organisms. Petroleum products are included in varying degrees as hazardous substances. There had been a transitional period since July 2001 where hazardous substances already present in New Zealand are transferred to the new law. The transitional period ends 1st April 2004. |
