Focused on delivering support to small and medium enterprises, the Fund is designed to support sustainability in the sector that forms the backbone of the New Zealand economy. Partners to the fund include the Ministry of the Environment and the New Zealand Business Council for Sustainable Development (NZBCSD). New Zealanders need to be aware that there are choices to be made about energy. New Zealand, like many countries around the world, is facing two significant hallenges: finding the energy needed to power the economy; and moving to a more sustainable energy future. As a senior member of the NZBCSD, Shell played a key role in the development of the Business Council’s Sustainable Energy Futures-Outlook 2050 project. This was a business initiative using participants’ combined resources to develop a better understanding of the sustainable energy options for New Zealand out to 2050. In our exploration activity, our key stakeholders include national, regional and local governments as well as the communities in which we operate. We work very closely in the Taranaki region with three community advisory groups in Motonui, Oanui and Kapuni. These groups enable us to acknowledge, respect and understand community interests and how our operation can have an impact on and add value to these communities.
