In the last few years the company has sponsored conservation and research at the Arjin Mountain Reserve in Xinjiang, a remote area which is home to two of China's most endangered species, the Tibetan Antelope (the Chiru), which poachers kill for shatoosh, and the Tibetan Wild Ass (the Kiang). CERS' work there this year won the Ford Motor Company Environmental Award for its work in the Arjin Reserve. This work is represented in a new book being published by CERS on conservation in China, which Shell is sponsoring in 2002. Other CERS projects sponsored have included the protection of black-necked cranes.
