Wetlands support in Hangzhou

Shell has sponsored Wetland International China for work ON coastal wetland biodiversity conservation and capacity building in Hangzhou Bay. The bay is ecologically important because of its large area and diversity and abundance of coastal wetland resources. These coastal wetlands provide refuge for thousands of waterbirds of different species. Phase one of the project will last one year.

China Green Map

In partnership with China Environmental Protection Foundation, Shell sponsored the printing of 12,000 copies of China Green Map and 1,000 narrative VCDs, which have been donated to local schools and communities for the promotion of biodiversity conservation awareness.

Building capacity in Environmental Impact Assessments

Shell worked with Flora and Fauna International to expand the capacity of government authorities, universities, technical institutes and other practitioners to better incorporate ecological and biodiversity considerations into the Environmental Impact Assessment process. The projects included the preparation of guidelines to support China's law on environmental protection, which called for significantly improved standards of EIA. A best practice manual, an institutional and training needs assessment and training courses were part of the programme.
