In partnership with UNESCO, Shell has established an Energy Chair at the Institute of Coal Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, in Shanxi Province, dedicated to coal gasification. The holder of the chair organizes seminars and workshops in universities and research centres, in industry and the private sector, to enhance information transfer and exchanges of new ideas. A website has also been set up. A key aim of the programme is to promote scientific and technological research expertise and know-how that in turn acts as a catalyst for sustainable industrial, economic and social development. Alternative clean coal technologies remain a priority for the government. |
