 Designation is by penetration range eg 40/60 pen bitumen has a penetration that ranges from 40 to 60 decimillimetres (dmm). The majority of penetration grade bitumens produced are used in road construction. The overall trend is towards adopting harder bitumens that produce asphalts which have superior properties to those manufactured using the softer grades. - 10/20
