How to submit a proposal for consideration

 

Shell Oil Company and the Shell Oil Company Foundation make monetary grants to nonprofit organizations within the United States.  Priority consideration will be given to organizations in or near communities where Shell Oil Company or its affiliates in the United States have a major presence.

 

Nonprofit organizations are encouraged to submit proposals if they meet our general eligibility criteria and contribution guidelines.

 

Contribution Guidelines

Shell Oil Company and the Shell Oil Company Foundation will consider charitable contributions to eligible nonprofit organizations for select programs that fall within our focused areas of contributions.  Before you apply for funding, please review the eligibility criteria listed below. Nonprofit organizations interested in applying for a grant from Shell Oil Company or the Shell Oil Company Foundation must meet the eligibility criteria.

 

Unsolicited proposals are reviewed on a regular basis. We regret that, due to the overwhelming volume of requests that we receive, we are not able to fund every proposal.

Eligibility Criteria

Shell Oil Company and the Shell Oil Company Foundation support a wide range of charitable organizations that are tax-exempt in the United States, under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. Shell Oil Company and the Shell Oil Company Foundation will not consider contributions for the following purposes:

  • Individuals
  • Private Foundations
  • Non-profit organizations without a current 501(c)(3) exempt status
  • Conferences or symposia
  • Endowment funds
  • Fraternal and labor organizations
  • Capital campaigns
  • Conferences, workshops, or seminars not directly related to Shell business interests
  • Religious organizations that do not serve the general public on a non-denominational basis
  • Organizations located in or benefiting nations other than U.S. and its territories
  • Organizational operating expenses

How to submit a proposal for consideration

If your request falls within our focused areas of contribution and you meet our eligibility requirements, please submit your proposal via our online application. You will be asked to complete an eligibility quiz before you begin the application process. Your application should include a brief statement describing the mission of your organization, amount requested (including budget information for the specific project), the purpose of the contribution and a brief explanation of how the request meets our guidelines. If your request is granted, please be prepared to submit an IRS statement that validates your organizations 501(c)3 tax status.

 

Please allow four to six weeks for review of proposals. Priority consideration will be given to those proposals submitted via this web site, but hard copy proposals can be sent to the following location:
