Shell Partners with Houston Food Bank and American Red Cross to Help Victims of Hurricane Katrina

07 Sep 2005

Shell is partnering with the Houston Food Bank and the American Red Cross to conduct a food drive to provide relief for the tens of thousands of people using Houston as their refuge from the aftermath of Katrina.

“The devastation from Hurricane Katrina is unimaginable.  The needs are great, and this food drive will provide a chance for Shell and Houstonians alike, to demonstrate their heartfelt desire to make a difference in these peoples lives,” stated John Hofmeister, President, Shell Oil Company.  “Shell wants to help these folks get back on their feet and we are committed to doing that through this food drive and other community initiatives,” Hofmeister continued.

Houstonians can bring non-perishable food (tuna, peanut butter, crackers, granola bars), paper goods (paper plates, plastic utensils, diapers, baby wipes), baby items (formula, juices and baby food in plastic containers), and personal hygiene items (toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, deodorant) to the nearest participating Shell location beginning Wednesday, September 7, and continuing through the end of September.  Approximately 200 Shell locations in the Houston area are participating in the drive.  To find the nearest participating location call 1-888-GO-SHELL

In addition to the food drive, Shell and Motiva have given $2 million dollars to the American Red Cross, and will match employee contributions up to another million dollars to help with relief efforts.
