Gasoline Prices

02 Sep 2005

Shell and Motiva have a history of being sensitive to price changes during significant events, such as Hurricane Katrina, and we do not condone price gouging.

We froze our wholesale prices in hurricane-impacted areas of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida prior to the evacuation orders made in advance of the storm.

We have also done our best to maintain competitive prices at the pump.  The majority of Shell stations are operated by independent businesses that are free to set their own prices, and we have encouraged our independent wholesalers and dealers to practice restraint when pricing.  In addition, we are monitoring for irregular pricing patterns through audits of credit card transaction and consumer calls to our customer service line.

As a result, we are pleased to report that the vast majority of our operators are acting responsibly.  Out of more than 15,000 stations, we have had a limited number of allegations.  Each allegation will be investigated aggressively and we will take appropriate action.  In addition, we are cooperating fully with government authorities investigating this matter.

We recommend customers contact their state's attorney general if any station is charging a price out of line with other stations in that market. A state-by-state list of government agencies that track this information is available at www.shell.com/us. For Shell-specific issues, customers can call the Shell Customer Service center at 888-467-4355.

We value the relationships we have with our customers and work hard everyday to maintain their trust.
