Shell named “Official Petroleum Products and C-store Sponsor” of the 2005 Chicago Auto Show

02 Feb 2005

With over one million square feet and nearly 1,000 different vehicles, the largest Auto Show in North America opens in Chicago on Feb. 11 with Shell Oil Products US in the middle of the excitement.  As the “Official Petroleum Products and C-Store” sponsor, Shell will again sponsor the highly successful “First Look for Charity” preview party and the Shell Exotic Car exhibit, one of the most anticipated and visited displays at the auto show.

Shell is perfectly positioned for such a high-profile position at the Chicago Auto Show following the 2004 launch of its most advanced fuel ever, Shell V-Power®, which is now the number-one selling premium unleaded gasoline in the US. Additionally, all grades of Shell gasoline have been certified as meeting the “Top Tier Detergent Gasoline” standard set by BMW, General Motors, Honda and Toyota. The Chicago Auto Show is an opportunity for Shell to further demonstrate its collaboration with the auto industry in the development of advanced conventional and future fuels.

Shell’s sponsorship of the Exotic Car exhibit will provide local consumers with the opportunity to see legendary car models such as Lamborghini, Lotus, Panoz and a replica of Michael Schumacher’s Ferrari Challenge racecar, which will be at the show for a limited time. Chicago-area Shell retailers also are getting involved by offering two specially priced passes to the Chicago Auto Show to consumers who make a minimum $10 gasoline purchase at over 211 local participating Shell stations. The discount passes, which can save consumers half-price up to $10 on weekday auto show admission, are available at participating Shell stations through February 18, 2005 , or while supplies last.

In addition, Shell is giving consumers the chance to win a new 2005 Chevy SSR pickup truck.

Entry forms will be available at participating Chicago-area Shell stations and at the Shell exhibit at the Chicago Auto Show. No purchase is necessary to enter. The sweepstakes ends February 20 2005.

“Shell has been providing American motorists with quality fuels and lubricants for nearly 100 years and as a longtime member of the motoring community, we are proud to be the sponsor of the 2005 Chicago Auto Show,” said Ian Sutcliffe, vice president of retail for Shell Oil Products US. “Whether it’s providing customers with one of the best rebate credit cards available in the oil industry, specially formulated gasoline or specially priced tickets to the Chicago Auto Show, Shell is dedicated to giving customers more value for their money.”

The Shell booth, located near the Shell Exotic Car exhibit, will feature both fun and educational activities such as Ferrari calendar giveaways and a “Gas Pump Game” that will give visitors the opportunity to win Shell gasoline gift cards valued from $10 to $100. Additionally, applications will be available to sign up for the Shell MasterCard® from Citi® Cards, which offers a 5 percent rebate on all Shell gasoline purchases and an additional 1 percent rebate on all other purchases.

The 2005 Chicago Auto Show will be held at McCormick Place from Friday, February 11 through Sunday, February 20, 2005 and the Shell-sponsored “First Look for Charity” preview party, which benefits 19 local charities, will be held on February 10.  First Look for Charity is one of Chicago's most bountiful charitable causes and the event, which raised more than $2.4 million in 2004, is a black-tie affair that allows participants to get the “first look” at more than 1,000 new vehicles.
