More competitive employees will have the opportunity to run against Shell Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer Pervis Thomas in the “Run with the Boss” race.
Gearing up for the event, team walk captains hosted rallies at many of Shell’s office locations to solicit volunteers and monetary donations. Shell’s affiliate, Motiva Enterprises, also has volunteers participating in the event. Shell and Motiva will match all individual donations of $25 or more. Shell volunteers hope to raise at least $110,000 for the UNCF scholarship program through the annual walk event this weekend. The company has been recognized by the UNCF as a top corporate fundraiser for many years and, in fact, Shell was the largest corporate fundraiser last year—ranked against both companies with and without a matching gift program.
UNCF, the nation’s largest, oldest and most comprehensive minority higher education assistance organization, has raised more than $2 billion to help more than 350,000 students attend college.
While the UNCF has distributed more funds to help minorities attend school than any entity outside of the U.S. government, many people are not aware that UNCF-administered scholarships are open to all ethnic groups.
More than 4,500 Shell employees, retirees and family members gave approximately 30,940 hours of their time for more than 50 company-sponsored volunteer initiatives this year. For more information contact:
