Shell Pipeline Company, LP—Gulf of Mexico Region was recently awarded the prestigious 2003 Business of the Year Citizenship Award from the Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce at its 75th annual membership banquet. The Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce presents this award annually to the business that best exemplifies stewardship in the community and serves as a role model for all businesses to follow. Shell Pipeline Company was selected as the winner of the 2003 Business of the Year Citizenship Award by a panel in the U.S. Chamber of Commerce office in Washington, D.C. Shell Pipeline Company is among the industry leaders in managing pipeline and terminal activities for the transportation of gasoline, crude oil and other petroleum products throughout the U.S. Shell has the largest pipeline infrastructure of its kind in Louisiana and currently transports 1.6 million barrels of crude oil a day through more than 20 pipeline systems in south Louisiana. “Early on, Shell saw the value of supporting the effort to preserve Louisiana’s sensitive coast and we’re dedicated to doing just that. Because this is an area where many Shell people live and work, these projects are particularly important to our employees, as well as our core business,” said John Hollowell, president of Shell Pipeline. Last year, in an effort to promote an environmental best practice, Shell Pipeline Company—Gulf of Mexico Region shared its unique spill prevention process to the industry at no cost. And in 2002, the Shell Oil Company Foundation committed $3 million to the educational fund of America’s WETLAND: Campaign to Save Coastal Louisiana. These projects are among many that Shell is involved that support initiatives of corporate stewardship and ethical leadership. “This company exemplifies its responsibility to the community through individual efforts and corporate stewardship,” said Allie Williams, director of membership for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “With the ongoing problems of the coastal land loss in Louisiana, it is a good feeling to know that this company is working hard for its community, the state and the nation.”
