Shell and Motiva volunteers will provide assistance at the Houston Food Bank, an organization that Shell has partnered with since Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service activities were initiated in 1996. Shell is also partnering with Keep Houston Beautiful and Yates Museum to help clean areas along Martin Luther King Blvd, as well as Freedmen’s Town, located near downtown Houston. Shell collaborates with the National Points of Light Foundation to sponsor this day of service and has reserved this time for its employees to participate in corporate-sponsored activities to improve its communities. “Volunteerism is an important part of Shell’s corporate culture and because these activities are in the name of Dr. King, it’s even more powerful. What is so inspiring to me is that employees recruit their children and other family members and soon, a legacy of service is born,” said Roxanne Decyk, senior vice president of corporate affairs and human resources. As most local schools are closed in recognition of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, many Shell employees will also bring their children to the volunteer sites located throughout the Greater Houston area. Shell Youth Training Academy students will lend support at the Houston Food Bank.
