Computing Best Practices for Remote Access

printable version
Recommendations for Working Remotely

In the event of a hurricane, severe weather situation or other emergency that would necessitate working remotely, please be sure the following remote access best practices are followed:

  • If you have a company laptop, please take it home at the end of the day. You may need to work from home for the next few days.
  • Be sure you have your smartcard before leaving the office. Remember any cables or power supplies that you may need for your laptop to work from home.
  • As there may be a significant number of users working remotely, please do not stay connected to the Shell network for long periods of time. Please log off once you have completed your tasks. The recommendation would be to sync your e-mail and work offline.
  • This document describes best practices for working remotely.
  • If you do not have MOB (Mobile Office Business) or MOP (Mobile Office Private) currently, it is too late to request access for a situation in the same week.
  • The GI Helpdesk may also be affected by this situation. As a result, there may be longer wait times. As a reminder, the GI Helpdesk numbers are 1-800-879 4630 and 713-245-5331 and the CSC Help Desk number is 1-877-786-5821.
