Voluntary confinement of symptomatic persons, including measures to reduce risk of transmission to other household members. (See Information for people who have been in contact with patients suspected of having influenza during a (pre-) pandemic) The closure of buildings or population-wide measures like discouragement of mass gatherings and so forth may be considered during some phases of a (pending) pandemic but will largely depend on which settings are considered to contribute to transmission. Smaller measures, like the cancellation of non-essential workshops, training sessions or presentations may be announced if necessary. Regardless, besides adhering to Sensible respiratory hygiene precautions, the following measures in a workplace setting may help and be announced when appropriate: - Where possible, meetings should be held by telephone, even when participants are in the same building
- Avoid meeting in small meeting rooms if face-to-face meetings are unavoidable. Choose large rooms and sit at least 1 meter from each other if possible.
- Not having lunch together in the lunch room or canteen – either stagger lunchtimes so numbers of people in the lunch room are reduced or eat at your desk or workstation or other more isolated location
- Do not congregate in tearooms. Make your tea/coffee and then leave the area.
- Considering the possibility of people working from home
