Shell chemicals companies number among the largest petrochemical producers in the world. The Shell Group’s chemical business operations in the U.S. are performed through Shell Chemical LP, which is one of nearly 70 companies engaged in chemicals businesses for the Shell Group.

Shell Chemical LP produces about 20 billion pounds (9,072 kt) of chemicals annually, which are sold primarily to industrial markets in the United States. The product portfolio includes lower olefins, aromatics, phenol, solvents, ethylene oxide/glycol, higher olefins and their derivatives, and propanediol, which are used in many consumer and industrial products and processes. Our major U.S. manufacturing facilities are located in Alabama (Mobile), Louisiana (Norco and Geismar) and Texas (Deer Park ). Plant capacities for ethylene, which is one of Shell Chemical LP’s largest volume products include 1,450 kt/yr at Deer Park and 1,550 kt/yr at Norco. Chemicals-related technology activities in the United States are centered at the Westhollow Technology Center in Houston, Texas.

Shell Chemical LP also participates in several joint ventures with partners such as ExxonMobil and BASF. CNOOC and Shell Petrochemicals Company Limited, a joint venture between Shell Nanhai BV (in which Shell Chemical LP owns a minority interest) and CNOOC Petrochemicals Investment Limited, built a multibillion-dollar petrochemicals complex in southern China (Nanhai) which started up in January 2006.
