John was appointed Technical Vice President - Europe on 1st November 2006 and is Shell’s senior upstream representative in the UK, on the Board of Shell U.K. Holdings. He is also a Board member of Oil & Gas U.K. and is a member of the Joint Industry- Government body, PILOT. Born in Scotland in 1960, John joined the oil and gas industry and Shell in 1982, initially working offshore in the North Sea as a well site petroleum engineer. He has held various technical and managerial positions in the UK, Oman, Colombia & the USA. Latterly, he was Northern North Sea Development Manger from 1997-2001 during which time he led the world’s largest offshore oil field depressurization project on Brent. From 2002-2006 he was Asset Manager for the Western half of the Gulf of Mexico, based in New Orleans. His five years in the Gulf spanned the devastating summer of 2005 when Hurricanes Katrina and Rita swept through the offshore infrastructure and tragically struck the Gulf Coast.
