Who: A manufacturer of automotive gears in South Germany Application: Broaching of flutes into sliding selection shaft. Situation prior to Shell product use: With a competitor’s broaching oil the user experienced: - The lubricant was contaminating the broaching oil leading to reduce tool life
- Increase of viscosity caused chips to stick to the tool
- Frequent disposal due to the loss of additive power
Situation after Shell product use: The use of Garia 601 M-22 & M-12 for top-up yielded the results: - Stable viscosity level at 20 mm/s
- Clean broaches due to high wetting and flushing power
- Improved surfaces of the machined parts and 10% increase of tool life
- Sufficient additive power even with 30% Way lubricant contamination
- Four times sump life
Saving / Benefits to user: Key impact of Garia 601 M-22 & M-12 was the high additive reserve in combination with the correction of the viscosity, which led to an overall improvement in working conditions. The increased sump life and resulting reduction of oil consumption resulted in a savings of 3,000 liter per year, with less machine downtime and strongly reduced disposal cost.
