Renewable energy is also a key component of the low carbon strategy in the US. As such, many states have Renewable Portfolio Standards that mandate a certain percentage of electricity to be generated by renewable resources. Many states have authorised the use of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) to demonstrate compliance with their Renewable Portfolio Standards.
