In a little more than five years, Shell WindEnergy has become a major investor in wind, generating emission-free electricity that saves around 1 million tons of CO2 a year compared to emissions from a coal-fired plant. We are involved in wind projects in Europe and North America. The focus for new projects is on North America, where we can leverage our skills and experience as well as benefit from the availability of undeveloped wind resources to deliver what we expect to be competitive returns. Currently, we have equity in 11 wind projects with a total capacity of around 1,100 megawatts (Shell share is about 550 megawatts). About 1,000 megawatts are in operation and around another 100 megawatts under construction. Out of the total capacity, almost 900 megawatts are in the United States. Our activities focus on the development and operation of commercial-scale wind developments that can add significant power and capacity to the grid.
Projects: - US: Rock River, White Deer, Cabazon, Whitewater, Brazos, Colorado Green, Bear River - Europe: Harburg, La Muela, Offshore Windpark Egmond aan Zee
