Singapore's (red line) diesel price is among the cheapest in the world. Information adapted from source: PFC Energy As the chart above shows, diesel prices in Singapore compared to other markets are amongst the cheapest in the world. The rising trend of diesel pump prices is attributed to the increasing cost of crude as well as increasing demand for diesel both in the developing countries (for industrial uses) as well as developed economies (consumer demand). In some European countries, as many as 60% of the new passenger car purchases are diesel. In Singapore, diesel is predominantly used by taxi drivers and light-goods commercial vehicles. There are a few privately owned diesel vehicles due to the upfront road tax requirement (6 times the level applied to petrol vehicles) for diesel users.
