KPI: Injuries - total reportable case frequency
Our injury rate in 2008 – which has fallen by approximately 50% since 1999 – was our best ever. This performance confirmed the importance of the big push we are making to change behaviour by simplifying safety rules and strengthening our safety culture.
To help monitor our safety performance, we use a standard safety measure - total recordable case frequency (TRCF). This is the number of injuries of contractors and staff requiring medical treatment or time off work, for every million hours worked.
Our injury rate has steadily come down over time, improving approximately 50% since 1999. In 2008, our TRCF improved again and was better than our target. This reflects our efforts to build a safety culture where all employees and contractors must aim for “Goal Zero” – operating with zero fatalities and significant incidents.
