By working with industry bodies and associations we can help to promote more economically, socially and environmentally responsible conduct by companies and support sustainable development.

Business and Industry Advisory Committee (BIAC)

BIAC is the officially recognised representative of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) business community. Shell has sponsored an OECD Roundtable on Sustainable Development for three years.

Business for Social Responsibility

BSR helps its member companies integrate sustainability into business strategy and operations through consulting, research and convening power. Our Vice President Sustainable Development sits on BSR’s Board of Directors and Aron Cramer, President & CEO of BSR was the 2007 Review Committee Chairman for the Shell Sustainability Report.

The Conference Board

The Conference Board is a does research and shares best practice on behalf of its members in the business community. Shell executives are represented in Conference Board for a on corporate security, corporate responsibility and sustainability.

European Round Table of Industrialists

An informal forum of approximately 45 leaders of major multinational companies, it brings together representatives from a wide range of industry and technology sectors. Our Chief Executive is Chair of the Round Table’s Energy and Climate Change Working Group.

International Chamber of Commerce

An international industry organisation. Shell is a member of a number of ICC Commissions including Business in Society, Competition, Environment and Energy and Tax.

International Association of Oil & Gas Producers

Members of this group produce more than half the world's oil and a third of its gas. It represents the interests of the upstream industry before international regulators and legislators. Shell is a member of the Management Committee and participates in its working committees, on subjects including Environmental Quality and Health matters.

International Business Leaders Forum

This group promotes responsible business and partnerships for social, economic and environmentally sustainable international development, particularly in new and emerging markets. Our Executive Director Exploration and Production sits on its Board. We are involved in many activities led by IBLF, for example on partnerships and security and human rights.

International Emissions Trading Association (IETA)

This associations works to promote effective emissions trading systems as an important measure to address Climate Change. Shell’s Climate Change Adviser is currently Vice President of IETA.

International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association (IPIECA)

IPIECA aims to develop and promote scientifically sound, cost-effective, and socially acceptable solutions to global sustainability issues related to the oil and gas industry. Shell is a member of IPIECA’s board and involved in working groups on topics ranging from health, to climate change and social performance.

World Business Council for Sustainable Development

The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) is a CEO-led, global association of some 200 companies dealing exclusively with business and sustainable development. Our Chairman is on this organisation’s executive committee and our climate change advisor is an active member of its Energy and Climate focus area.
